There is a large network of dealers who purchase and sell pallets and containers, as almost anyone who manufactures or distributes products has most likely already found out.

While corrugated pallets are reusable, they are usually purchased new and not refurbished for further use. You can find a large selection of both used and new pallets constructed of wood, plastic, and metal. Due to the economic forces of supply and demand you will see prices move up and down.

There are several reasons why surplus pallets might become available for purchase: changing business needs due to an adjustment in products or volume, businesses that find a different type of pallet that is a better match for their products or budget, and companies going out of business altogether. Wood pallets that need to be repaired will often be given to a company that specializes in such repairs. This is usually more cost effective for a company than making the repairs themselves. Used plastic pallets often need to be sanitized when they come available for sale, depending on what they were used for.

While some pallet servicers will come and pick up pallets from a customers location, many will require that the used pallets be delivered to their receiving docks. When they come to a customer’s location they will use either closed or open trucks or trailers. You can usually find a pallet servicer that will offer you a good turn around time when you need to have your pallets repaired and returned. Look for a member of the Pallet Clearinghouse Network it is time to retrieve, rent or recover pallets. They may also be also to assist you with boxes and shipping crates.

Pallet service providers can also handle additional tasks, such of the heat treatment, fumigation, or preservative treatment that wood pallets often require. Many times pallets that are set to be exported will require such specialized treatments. Military specifications will require the production of heavy duty pallets. Mulch can be produced from the wood chips that occur as the result of the refurbishing process. These are great for garden decoration, sometimes even having several colors from the different types of wood used in the various pallets being serviced.
